We Salute Sis. Jacqueline Bracey
Today we are shining the spotlight on one of our very own- Mrs. Jacqueline Bracey- for her story is our story, and our story is Black History.
A life-long member of St Paul UAME, and affectionately known as “Aunt Jackie”, she is well known in the city of Hamden, where she resides, and in the city of New Haven as a trailblazer and tireless advocate for youth, education, and community concerns.
She was recently honored by the National Council of Negro Women Inc, Greater New Haven Section, along with her fellow members of the Concerned Citizens for the Greater New Haven Dixwell Community House, for their efforts and contributions towards the revitalization project of the newly rededicated Dixwell Community House. The twenty (20) plus years commitment of the Concerned Citizens culminated in the opening of the new Dixwell “ Q “ house in the fall of 2021.
In the field of education, Mrs. Bracey has served as a member of the Hamden Board of Education’s Title IV committee, Hamden High ‘75 Advisory Committee for education, the Interagency Advisory Committee of the University of Connecticut, Manchester Community College Minority Caucus, Manchester Community College Perkins Awards Committee and the Manchester Community College Community Cultural Affairs Committee.
Her numerous other accomplishments and areas of community service include:
-Serving on the Board of Directors for the Dixwell Community House,
- Assistant and Associate Director of the Dixwell Community House ( “Q”) House
-Director of Social Concerns for the Capitol Region Conference of Churches
-Counselor at Manchester Community College
- President of the Black Woman’s Caucus of New Haven
-Assistant Moderator of the minority Advisory Committee of WTNH, Channel 8 TV New Haven
-Founding member and President of the Dixwell Community House Alumni Association
-Board of Director for the Walter “Pop” Little League, the APT Foundation and Vital Element Production Inc.
She currently serves as the President of the Greater New Haven Concerned Citizens for the Dixwell Community House and the Executive Producer of “From where we Sit” Citizens Television Inc.
Here at St Paul UAME, Mrs. Bracey has served as the Pastor Steward, a member of the Finance Board and continues to serve as the teacher for the Adult Class of the Church School. She was married to the late George Bracey for 62 years before his passing in 2019 and is the proud
mother of two sons and four grandchildren.
